I’ve been working in fair trade and food justice for 20+ years.

Hi there, thank you for your interest in my work.

I’ve worked in the fair trade and food justice movements for 25 years. I am co-founder and served as executive director for 13 years of Fair World Project, the leading fair trade advocacy organization in the United States now housed under Corporate Accountability Lab. I was the editor of For A Better World Magazine for 10 years and co-host of For A Better World Podcast. I have written articles and been quoted in several media outlets such as New York Times, Washington Post, Bloomberg Business Week, Food Print, Huffington Post and Rodale Institute on transforming food systems. I cemented World Fair Trade Day into the calendars of natural product stores and ethical brand’s around the United States through creating caused-based marking campaigns.

I’ve had the honor of sitting on many executive and advisory boards of some of the most influential ethical organizations including Equal Exchange, the Regenerative Organic Alliance, the Fair Trade Federation and Grow Ahead. I was instrumental in co-developing the Regenerative Organic Certification standard alongside executive teams at Patagonia, Dr. Bronner’s and Rodale Institute. I developed reports and tools analyzing different domestic and global fair trade and fair labor certifications. And I have worked with over 30 producer groups globally to bring fairly traded items to U.S. consumers. I have organized and accompanied executive teams to supply chains around the world.

I have a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley and a Graduate Certificate in Food Systems from the Berkeley Food Institute.

Currently, I write articles on fair trade and food justice and am writing a book on celebrating grassroots organizing to transform our food systems set to be published in the beginning of 2025 by Chelsea Green Publishing. I am also on the board of Grow Ahead and the Chair of the Board of Directors of Zebra Unite 501(c)3, the non-profit leg of Zebras Unite, a member-owned co-op creating the capital, culture, and community to power a more just and inclusive economy.
